We adopted some kittens last weekend. They were advertised on a website for sale as being ‘cuddly and ready to go’, but when I went to see them, they weren’t even living in a house. The woman who was selling them couldn’t really be bothered with them and had left them in her garden to live in a pile of rubbish that was going to be skipped at some point. She said it was because it was the third or fourth litter her two female cats had had this year and she didn’t have the time to look after them.
Unfortunately this meant that they hadn’t been handled since being born and weren’t socialised with humans. We decided to take them anyway (and pay for them).
Now we’re trying to socialise them and get them used to being around us. They’ve come on miles since last week, when they would hide under the sofa and hiss every time you even went close them. Yesterday they were happy to jump onto the sofa and on to our laps if they’re coaxed with food or tricked with toys. Hopefully we’ll get there with them and they’ll carry on progressing at the rate they’re going.
